Happy 40th Anniversary to My Parents!

July 20, 1968~ My parents married in Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Bethesda, MD- right near the intersection of Little Falls Pkway + Mass. Ave. Both my parents were raised in Lutheran homes- Dad in Logansport, IN + Mom in Bethesda, MD. They met at a Lutheran college, Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN. I congratulate and honor my parents for their faithfulness to their covenant vows and give glory to God for helping them fulfill them.

Here are some quotes about marriage written by Mike Mason in his book- "The Mystery of Marriage: Meditations on the Miracle"

"In getting married, one espouses not an institution but a person, not a narrowness but an unimaginable breadth of possibility. For a person is the single most limitless entity in creation, and if there is anything that is even more unlimited and unrestrained in its possibilities than is a person, it is two people together."

"Marriage for the Christian is a continuous sacrament, an act of praise and obedience, and a means of grace..."

"It is not that the marriage vows hold any guarantee that a couple shall always be "in love," but rather that through God's grace and strength they may continue in faith "to love." For that, once again, is the peculiar meaning of Christian love: not a feeling, but an action, and not a human and limited action, but a supernatural and eternal one. Love is a deep, continuous, growing, and ever-renewing activity of the will, superintended by the Holy Spirit."
